Roxana and Eugene met in Montreal, where they
lived for more than ten years. In 2007, they discovered MonTango, which
became their favourite Montreal milonga. They soon left Montreal for
Vancouver, and later moved on to Toronto, but MonTango invited them
back regularly to share their dynamic and unique tango style with us
through workshops and performances. Now that Roxana and Eugene have
moved back to Montreal, MonTango is pleased to count them as part of
our permanent team of instructors.
The couple, trained in classical ballet and jazz,
took their first tango steps in 2002, in Montreal, with Julio
Méndez. In 2005, Roxana and Eugene decided to set aside other
forms of dance to concentrate exclusively on tango. That same year,
before heading off on a trip to Buenos Aires, they asked Julio to
recommend some teachers there with whom they could study. He gave them
just one name: Raúl Bravo. Raúl Bravo, “Maestro de
maestros,” is an extraordinary dancer, teacher and choreographer
who has trained generations of dancers since the ’60s. Roxana and
Eugene studied tango intensively with him for three consecutive
summers, both privately and in group classes. In 2007, Raúl
encouraged the couple to begin teaching.
