Tanguerafest 2021

A celebration of the women of tango,
Virtual edition from March 5 to 7

Festival overview

This 6th edition of Tanguerafest, the festival that marks International Women's Day by celebrating the women of tango, will be online. While waiting for the return of in-person classes and milongas, we can take the opportunity to study with teachers from around the world and to work on our individual technique. The festival will include classes with five maestras from here and elsewhere, a virtual opening milonga and a women-only round table discussion to conclude the weekend. Join us in keeping the tango spark alive as we practise, dance and raise a glass!

All activities will take place on Zoom in real time. The links will be sent by email the day before or the morning of the activity. The workshops will be in English or French with translation available if necessary.

All times are in EST (Montreal time); all prices are CAD.

Friday, March 5

•6:15-7:30 p.m. Workshop T1: Posture and essential technique with Andrea Shepherd. The festival organizer will open the weekend with a review of alignment and walking technique in order to dance while preserving our balance and elegance. $20

•8-10 p.m. The virtual milonga. Join us alone or as a couple to raise a glass; listen and dance to tandas highlighting the female musical talents of tango; and watch performances by some of our guest maestras. $10

Saturday, March 6

•1:30-2:45 p.m. Workshop T2: Different styles, different adornos with Juliana Maggioli. We will explore the question, "Does the woman have her own style?" by examining how the leader's style influences our possibilities of movement, embellishment and musicality, all with the aim of having fun in the milonga by easily adapting to different partners. $20

•3-4:15 p.m. Workshop T3: Immerse yourself in feeling with Hebe Hernández. Explore all the qualities that each movement can bring to us, through the pleasure of moving. A sequence will serve as a conduit to explore the thousands of variations that movements can give us, from the inside out. $20
